Occupational health and safety is everyone's responsibility - Yours, as well as your suppliers. Here are just a few tips you could consider in planning your next exhibition.
1. Review your company’s OH&S policies and procedures and ensure all insurances are current.
2. Ask your suppliers and the organiser for their OH&S policies and guidelines.
3. Brief your staff on the stand, the show and the venue before you arrive on site.
4. Take extra care during move in and move out as this is when accidents are most likely to occur.
5. Move In and Move Out are classified as a 'construction zone'.
• All persons in a construction zone must wear a ‘highly visible’ vest and 'closed in' shoes - no thongs, sandals etc.
• Children under the age of 15 years are not permitted to a construction zone i.e. during Move In or Move Out.
• No alcohol is permitted in a construction zone.
6. It is highly recommended to use the preferred electrical supplier for the exhibition. If you have your own display lighting or illuminated or electrically operated display, you must comply with appropriate state legislation.
7. If you see an unsafe work practice, report it to the exhibition organiser or security immediately.
8. Use industry professionals - EEAA members - for your next event. There are many risks especially during the construction, transport, in electrical services and the busy move in and move out periods.
